Starlight Children's Foundation
http://www.starlight.org.au

Since being formed as an Australian children’s charity in 1988, Starlight has brightened the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children, and their families, throughout Australia.
Starlight programs are delivered both in and out of hospital, providing positive distraction to children in their time of need.
Living with illness or injury can cause enormous strain in the lives of children and their families. The pain, loneliness and isolation that sick children feel dominates their lives, and they often miss out on normal experiences that healthy children take for granted.
Physical recovery is only part of the solution. Starlight delivers innovative programs designed to make children happy and lift their spirits when they need it most. Starlight brings fun and laughter to children no matter what their illness or where they live.

Ronald McDonald House Charities
www.rmhc.org.au

The cornerstone of RMHC's work, Ronald McDonald Houses are attached to major women or children’s hospitals and provide a 'home-away-from-home' for seriously ill children and their families.
They provide a ‘home-away-from-home’ for families of children with serious illness, along with the support of experienced House Managers, volunteers and other families in a similar situation.
Each House is administered by an independent board (made up of McDonald’s, hospital and community representatives) that appoints staff and organises the big-hearted volunteers who manage the day-to-day operations. Capital funding is provided by RMHC, but each House is responsible for its own daily running costs.

Wheelchairs for Kids
http://www.wheelchairsforkids.org
In developing countries where health care and other social services are poor to non-existent, raising a child with a disability presents a significant burden to the whole family.
Without a wheelchair a child can be housebound and a burden for a carer, usually the mother. The endemic poverty is compounded because the carer is also housebound and possibly unable to earn income or help in the fields.
In many cases a child intellectually capable of attending mainstream school is denied the opportunity because of the absence of a wheelchair.
The gift of a wheelchair gives twice. It not only presents the child with freedom but also frees the mother to work and contribute to the family's income.
